Charles Ward ‘Charlie’ Blagborne

Blagborne, CharlieCharlie Blagborne was born in 1911. He was the son of William D. and Mabel M. Blagborne .He was a self employed contractor in Summerland. At the time Charlie had the only company in town with a D2 tractor. He joined the RCAF 429 Bison Squadron. He was a wireless operator. He was married to Pauline J. Blagborne. His last mission was a bombing raid on DusseldorfGermany in the RhineValley. Charlie was killed in action on November 3rd 1943 at the age of 32. It is believed that his aircraft was shot down over Dusseldorf. His body was never recovered. His name is on the Runnymede War Memorial in Englefield Green, near Egham 32 kilometres by road west of LondonEngland. This memorial contains the names of 3,050 Canadian airmen. (J/12854)
