Allan was born in Calgary . His father John Clements an old country gardener. He moved to Summerland in 1917 with his two young children, including Allan. John Clements had worked for the parks department in Calgary. For his first year in Summerland he will work with A.A. Derrick and live on the Dr. More property. Allan worked at the Summerland Box Factory. He suffered from tuberculosis. He claimed he was able to cure this disease by stacking lumber, shirtless at the Box Factory. His primary responsibility has dry piling lumber ( leaving the lumber with gaps between to allow efficient drying). His mother, Lillian Clements (nee Smith) lived until the age of 108. She died in 1997.
