Miss Millicent DeThoren
Miss M. De Thoren was the daughter of Baron de Thoren. He made his name in the Boer War. In World War One he was second in command for the 1-3 Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles. Baron Lionel Aymar de Thoren lived in retirement in Lowertown at DL 455, Block 9 Lot 3.In the fall of 1914 the Summerland Review had an article which described the sinking of a British Cruiser ship off the coast of Chile and initially it was feared that Baron de Thoren, his daughter and C.F. Garnett may have drowned. Sometime later it was learned that they had survived the ordeal. Miss de Thoren returned to England with her sister Mrs Garnett. She was a nurse at Bignor Park Military Hospital.
