Richard Oliver ‘Dick’ Heron*
Dick Heron was born on August 24th 1885 in North Sunderland England. He was the son of Jospeh and Kate Heron. He listed his trade as a clerk. Prior to enlisting he spent four and one half years with the 30th British Columbia Horse. While in Summerland he worked on the orchard property of Mrs Kate Bentley. The date of enlistement was July 5th 1915. Dick Heron died in the spring of 1917 while serving with the 7th Battalion.He later jjoined the Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment), 29th Battalion. On November 26th 1916, Dick had just left a dugout when he was struck by a shell and killed His name is on the Vimy Ridge Memorial. (R#116514)
