Richard Oliver ‘Dick’ Heron*

Dick Heron was born on August 24^th 1885 in North Sunderland England. He was the son of Jospeh and Kate Heron. He listed his trade as a clerk. Prior to enlisting he spent four and one half years with the 30^th British Columbia Horse. While in Summerland he worked on the orchard property of Mrs Kate Bentley. The date of enlistement was July 5^th 1915. Dick Heron died in the spring of 1917 while serving with the 7^th Battalion.He later jjoined the Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment), 29^th Battalion.  On November 26^th 1916, Dick had just left a dugout when he was struck by a shell and killed   His name is on the Vimy Ridge Memorial.
