George Thompson lived at Victoria Gardens Summerland. His parents were Mr and Mrs James Thompson. All four of their sons were enlisted in the Canadian army. Their youngest son George served in the regular Canadian army. He served for six years in Malta and in India. At the time of his death he was Number 320, Private George Thompson of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders regiment. His brother David also served in India and before that served in the South African conflict. The Thompson’s oldest son was killed during maneuvers after returning from South Africa. Their fourth son served as a reservist and was called to the French front at Flanders in August 1914. According the June 4^th 1915 issue of the Summerland Review, “the sympathy of the community will go forth to the bereaved parents. It is the mothers and fathers who are suffering most, and are making the greatest sacrifices in the great struggle for right and liberty.”
