Summerland Banners
A Project Honouring the fallen of the World Wars
Project Overview
Banners of Remembrance
Summerland, BC, Canada

A banner for each of the service personnel listed on the Cenotaph in Memorial Park, Summerland, British Columbia. There are 39 names from World War I and 25 names from World War II.  Of these, 5 banners have been made, with 35 pictures available to make more. The first four were funded by the Summerland Cultural Commitee. The family of George Barkwill paid for his.

Throughout this site we may refer to soldiers or service men. This is for brevity.  In WWI there was a woman in the group, Millicent DeThoren (a nurse) and of course airmen and sailors. Names that are bracketed in quotes are nick names, that carried much more importance than they do now, especially in the First World War.

The picture at the top of this site is of the cenotaph in front of the old high school. The cenotaph was moved to Memorial Park in downtown Summerland.
